A Married Couple Becomes Troubled About Their Heavy Drinking And Asks Themselves If They Manifest Any Signs Of Alcohol Dependency

Lenny and Angie have been married for seven years. They wanted to experience some fun and excitement before they decided to have a family and so they with forethought developed a very vigorous social life.

The principal difficulty, it needs to be highlighted, is that nearly everything they do socially has something to do with drinking. For example, all of the sporting events, family get-togethers, parties with friends, dinner engagements, and happy hours they attend somehow include drinking.

If they were occasional drinkers this wouldn't be a big deal. Because they drink in an abusive manner, however, they are starting to observe some definite alcohol-related problems in their lives.

As an illustration, just three weeks ago Lenny was apprehended by the police for a second DWI and has been taking time off from work due to alcohol-related health issues. Not only this, but Lenny's last two or three performance evaluations at his place of employment have been less than satisfactory and he has begun to fail to remember what he says or does while he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family is starting to worry about his drinking problems.

Similar to Lenny's situation, Angie has been feeling unhappy with things in her life and to cope with this, she has been drinking more often than any time in the past eight months. What is more, Angie has been getting a lot of painful headaches and going through excruciating hangovers due to her drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling substantially less energetic when she gets up in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been receiving some inconsiderate criticism from her relatives, friends, family members, and coworkers about her excessive and careless drinking.

One Friday evening while watching the television, Lenny and Angie flipped through the channels and discovered a fascinating documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television documentary was a real bombshell to Angie and Lenny because more than a few of the alcohol facts that were talked about appeared as if they were unswervingly related to more than a few of the alcohol related drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been suffering through.

With thoughts of the television special still etched in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been exhibiting could be a signal that they are alcohol dependent or perhaps becoming alcoholic. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they schedule an appointment with one of the healthcare practitioners at the local alcohol abuse rehab center to find out more about the gravity of their drinking situation.

Strangely enough, although their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was plain to see that Angie and Lenny were at least concentrating on their drinking problems, they were willing to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in discovering how they could notably cut back on or get rid of the alcohol-related problems that had begun to escalate.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they made up their minds that the next day, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol treatment center located just East of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the drinking issues that had manifested themselves in their lives, they in point of fact had the most revitalizing night's sleep they could recall in the last seven weeks.
